Our Services

At Banchory we are proud to offer a quality service to owners including racehorse agistment, broodmare management, walk on to outside studs and yearling preparation.

Agistment

Banchory offers single paddock agistment for colts and spellers with special requirements, as well as shared agistment facilities. Long term spelling for horses recovering from injuries such as tendon tears or bows, post-operative care including individual care and attention in stables and smaller yards is also available.
All feeding programmes are carefully supervised by Banchory’s managers, Ashleigh and Nick Webster. Individual requirements are catered for when needed. Our lucerne hay is grown on farm on fertile creek flats which produce a high quality product throughout most of the year. Only on rare occasions, during prolonged dry periods, it becomes necessary to outsource our hay and chaff.
Most of our spelling paddocks are sown with improved pastures, including lucerne, green panic, Kentucky blue grass, on well drained, undulating terrain. Our smaller spelling areas have top rail fencing whilst the larger areas have 5 x strand soft wire fences, including two top white ‘sight’ wires. The horse areas on Banchory have a series of lane-ways which link to the stable and main horse handling areas, whilst catching yards are in or adjacent to all the larger paddocks to facilitate the handling of stock.

Broodmare Management

A safe and well managed environment for broodmares.

Banchory is situated in the heart of the Darling Downs stud precinct making it an ideal home for your broodmare, specialising in the care and handling of each thoroughbred foal from birth to weaning and the preparation of mares for the breeding season and trouble-free conception.

The stud is close to Beaudesert and Warwick studs and walk-ons are also done on a regular basis to stallions in the Hunter Valley during the breeding season. Floodlit yards are used preseason to facilitate cycling in mares and specialist reproductive veterinary supervision ensures excellent pregnancy rates in mares prepared at Banchory.
Banchory is in close proximity to several veterinary hospitals with vets on call providing first-rate post natal care for mares and foals and performing IgG tests and subsequent treatment if required. Floodlit foaling areas are under 24 hour supervision, with individual yards and stables close by available for mares and foals which need to be confined.

Yearling Preparation

Banchory provides a thoroughly professional service preparing your yearling for sale. Banchory Thoroughbreds has built up a solid reputation over the past few years focusing on the Magic Millions January and March QTIS Sales to achieve good results in the sales ring.
Each yearling receives a minimum eight week preparation when they are stabled, rugged, exercised on walker as well as being handled, brushed and taught to lead and stand for inspection. Most days and weather permitting the yearlings spend some time in outside “day yards” to provide variety in their routine.
Each yearling is treated as an individual, with customised mixed feeds to ensure the best possible outcome is attained. No hormones are used at Banchory during yearling preparation.
